"The “Hippie Country” term sums up the similarities of The Buckleys’ two spiritual homes where they evolved as musicians and songwriters. Both cities have strong music communities, legendary festivals, a counter-culture vibe and a spiritual and mystical sense. But getting to Nashville was on their minds even when they started busking and winning competitions on the streets of Australia’s music capital, Tamworth, during a family holiday in 2011. A few weeks ago, we sat down with internationally renowned Byron Bay band, The Buckleys, for an edition of Arnhem All Access inspired by our campaign Forever Young.
When we designed Forever Young, we knew we had to spotlight some Byron Bay musicians. Our collection was inspired by Bob Dylan's song, Forever Young and we knew The Buckley's had just released Woodstock '69 – it was simply meant to be. We couldn't wait to sit down with them and hear about the inspiration behind the song.
Meet Molly, Sarah and Lachlan the trio of talented siblings that make up The Buckleys. Born with mics and instruments in their hands, they have been performing since they were pretty much out of the womb, Molly tells us.
With their roots in Byron Bay and growing up in the Northern Rivers, they have that sort of hippie vibe that resonates so harmoniously with the area. It's something you can't quite escape when you are in Byron Bay and it's what makes the area and the art that comes from here so magical.
But the Buckleys don't want you to think that they are just some local band performing at the pub or busking in an alleyway – and they aren't. They have come a long way since busking as teenagers in Tamworth during the country music festival. Over the last few years, before global travel came to a halt, they had spent much of their time in Nashville Tennessee and they tell us how much they can't wait to return to the Honkytonk Capital. You can hear the influencer of the American south in their sound, a little bit country, a little bit 70s, and totally Byron all at the same time.
We hope you enjoy meeting this talented band who calls Byron Bay home. #SupportLocal
And don't forget, never let go of the things that make you feel Forever Young.
