Holiday Mode in Fiji
Bula! With international travel now back on the horizon, we were keen to hear more about what it was like to jet off on an international holiday. Jade, our graphic designer and style muse, takes us on her Fiji journey in her favourite sustainable Arnhem styles.
What did you love best about Fiji?
The locals were honestly some of the kindest people I’ve ever come across, they were so accommodating and helpful. Fiji is very much about being outdoors in nature and enjoying the ocean, there were palm trees everywhere you look, the sound of happy birds around you feels like paradise and so close to home!
Were the locals happy to see tourists back?
They were so incredibly warm and welcoming. From the moment we stepped off the plane, we were greeted by Fijian’s singing traditional songs to welcome us at Nadi airport, every Fijian local that I passed greeted us with a very friendly “Bula” (Welcome) Their beaming smiles melted my heart. Fiji relies so much on overseas travel to boost their economy so it was so nice to not only have a beautiful tropical holiday but support their tourism as well.
What was it like to travel again?
A few more steps in place to ensure we were safe to travel during a pandemic, but it was such a nostalgic feeling to get back on a plane and immerse myself in another culture again. Even the flight attendants seemed excited and eager to be back in the sky again.
Top 5 things to pack for a tropical holiday like Fiji?
- Swimsuit - I love my sustainable Arnhem swim.
- A flowy dress is a must - The Sophia Midi was perfect for my trip.
- Slides
- Sunglasses
- A good book
Any advice for international travel with ease?
Make sure you have a look on the local government website of the place your visiting to check what's required to travel to that destination. With Fiji, we had to pre-book accommodation, an airport transfer, insurance and have PCR tests and vaccination proof. All this needs to be printed out and shown at check-in. My biggest tip is - download the Australian Travel Declaration app for when you return to Australia.
Must taste
- The local fish! It’s so fresh and delicious
- The tropical fruit too. Pawpaw, bananas & pineapple are a must.
Must drink
- A Pina Colada Cocktail. Their coconuts are to die for.
Must see
-The Coral Coast. It's filled with plenty of beaches, ocean views and spots to snorkel your day away.
