A day in the life of the Garment Technician at Arnhem:

8:30 am
It’s likely you’ll start with a fresh made coffee or Chai in our lunchroom, from here your day might begin in a meeting with our production manager & designers to discuss samples and ideas, Reviewing print strike offs/ lab dips and other submissions with designer and submitting comments to the supplier. As a Garment Tech, you will be considering practical concerns, consistency across all sizes and staying as close as possible to the designer’s vision.

9 am
You will have tech packs to create for upcoming collections that have been signed off on. Attention to detail is key to being successful in this role, so you’ll need to be meticulous about spotting things that might have been missed throughout the product development cycle. This could be print not being scaled for larger sizes, or finding ways to cut costs if a design has not met our target cost. As in any job, there are things which can go wrong, and you’ll need to think on your feet to rectify these obstacles.

11 am
Next up; a zoom call with the factory where products you’ve worked on are being produced. Part of your role will be ensuring all fit comments are recorded and actioned, inspecting garments once they've been created. It's vital you stay on top of patterns and trend forecasts to make sure the products you’re creating not only represent our values but remain relevant and desirable to our core customers.

1 pm
After lunch: fittings. You’ll work closely with our head designer and founder to ensure garments fit perfectly, making notes and suggesting improvements along the way. You’ll think about the wash requirements for each garment, how to scale up and down for different sizes and examining the clothing for defects. Translating all of this in your fit comments to the factory.

4:30 pm
Your day ends by answering emails and arranging notes from your fit session, setting meetings for the next morning before racing out the door to squeeze a quick lighthouse walk in before the sun sets.
