Bow Churros for our Garden Soirée
At our recent Garden Soiree event, our founder Arnhem put her baking apron on and whipped up something truly special: Bow Churros. These sweet treats had our guests huddled around the churros station all night long.
You will need
~
100g water
100g milk
100g butter
3g salt
10g sugar
15g sugar
120g flour
3 large eggs
Sugar Topping ~ Approximately 200g sugar
Spices of your liking: Vanilla bean (scrape out the seeds and rub it into your sugar to make vanilla sugar), cinnamon.
Method

Prepare the Dough ~ In a saucepan, combine water, milk, butter, salt, and 10g of sugar. Heat the mixture over medium heat until the butter is melted and the mixture begins to simmer. Remove from heat and add the flour all at once. Stir vigorously until the mixture forms a smooth dough.
Incorporate Eggs ~ Allow the dough to cool slightly before adding the eggs. Beat in one whole egg until fully incorporated, followed by the additional two egg yolks. Set aside the two egg whites for later use.
Pipe the Churros ~ Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe the dough into bow shapes onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. If you prefer traditional churros, you can pipe them into straight lines.
Fry the Churros ~ Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy-bottomed pot to 350°F (175°C). Carefully lower the piped churros into the hot oil, frying them in batches until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels.
Coat with Sugar ~ While the churros are still warm, roll them in a mixture of sugar and your preferred spices. Whether you opt for vanilla sugar or cinnamon-spiced sugar, this coating adds an extra layer of flavour and sweetness.
